Ms Blanche and I have been to overnight camp together 11 times. She’s lived in NC all her life and I was with her 3 years ago when she saw the ocean for the first time; it doesn’t get any better than that! Once/month each of our evening groups of 70 break into small gatherings of 8-10 and we share dinner at the home of one of the group members. The intimacy of this time is Blanche’s favorite part of Reality. In our biweekly large group gathering, she always saves a seat for me. I often come into the room late, flustered, weary. I scan the room, I know will find her looking for me, motioning to me and patting the seat next to her, which she has saved just for me. A community of belonging is where we make space for one another.
